The New England Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (NEITE) annually recognizes individuals in the field of transportation engineering and planning who have made outstanding contributions to the profession and to the Section. In recent years, the awards have been presented at the New England Section Annual Meeting on the first Mondayin December. Traditionally, this meeting is held in Rhode Island.

Transportation Engineer of the Year

The Transportation Engineer of the Year Award is intended to recognize outstanding technical proficiency by a member of NEITE. The Awards Committee shall consider only members who have dispplayed exceptional techincal accomplishments in the form of written articles or reports, or develoopment of a new concept and/or theory related to transportation engineering or major transportation projects.

William P. McNamara Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award is intendedto recognize outstanding service and contributions by a Section member to the activities and welfare of NEITE. The Awards Committee shall consider only members of entities of NEITE who have demostrated an outstanding record of service to the Section. Former members of NEITE may also be recognized for his/her service while a Section member.

Transportation Leadership Award
Established 1989


The Transportation Leadership Award is intended to recognize an individual who is not a member of ITE who has made a major contribution to the transportation field. The Committee shall only consider potential candidates that have demostrated a dedicated effort to major transportation projects in an effort to imrove the movement of people and goods.
