The Second Transportation Student Research Symposium
Abstract Detail

|
Airlines have been dealing with passenger demand stochasticity
for a long time. Even with an "optimized" schedule, at departure
many flights would have empty seats while others would spill
passengers. We develop models to re-optimize flight schedule
and fleeting in the booking process to match capacity to demand.
Experiments are conducted using data from a major US airline.
Satisfactory improvements are achieved in profitability.
Further investigation in model properties are performed and
discussed.
