| Technology can enhance the management of urban highway networks through signal coordination, route guidance, incident response, and other features. Due to the technical and institutional complexities of large urban areas, however, centralized management configurations may struggle to improve conditions for a variety of reasons. This research examines the potential performance gains of decentralized management and suggests strategies for linking together multiple, autonomous subregions within an urban area. |
