David S. Hurwitz UMass Amherst Demonstration and Evaluation of Rational Speed Limits

Divider!

This project evaluated the process of establishing rational, well-publicized, strictly enforced speed limits, towards improved safety and compliance, experienced on roadways. As part of the FHWA / NHTSA project, in Natick, MA, six, similar, one-mile segments of road were examined. Before and after analyses were conducted on speed, crash, and citation data for each road segment. This analysis provided insight regarding impacts of the rational speed setting process on safety and compliance.
